Overview
Description

Electronic engineering is the discipline that applies physical sciences and quantitative methods to develop devices and systems that drive the flow of information and energy. Technologies innovated by electronic engineers have empowered the modern society and have vastly enhanced our quality of life. The BEng in Electronic Engineering program spans the fundamental sciences and technologies that are critical to the growth of our information-based society, as well as advanced subjects in signal and information processing, communications and networking, computer engineering and embedded system design, robotics and automation, microelectronics and integrated circuit design, photonics, biomedical electronics, data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI). Our program will give students the competency to innovate, model, analyze, design, and implement devices and systems with ubiquitous applications in existing and nascent fields such as big data, autonomous systems, the Internet of Things, and quantum technologies. The program will open for our students a vast range of opportunities for career and further study.

Career Prospects
Description

Diverse career paths are available to ECE graduates. Upon graduation, they take up diverse technical and managerial positions in the industry, such as electronic engineers, communication engineers, system analysts and designers, information technologists, and computer project managers. Many choose to continue their studies at postgraduate level. Even graduates who choose not to pursue technical careers find that the engineering training they obtained at HKUST has given them a competitive advantage over their co-workers.

Our graduates’ employers includes many world-class local and overseas companies, such as ASM, ASTRI, Fujitsu, Huawei, Hutchison, Lenovo, Microsoft, National Semiconductor, PCCW, Philips, SmarTone, Solomon Systech, and Varitronix.

“I have always been interested in the technology field and was excited to be admitted to HKUST. I took several elective courses during Year 1 and was fascinated by what electronic engineering can do to change the world. I chose ECE as my major, as I wanted to learn in depth about the advanced field of technology. I never regretted my choice. I cherished and enjoyed every moment as an ECE student.”
