  • HKUST is committed to achieving gender parity and actively promotes diversity and the reduction of stereotypes for a more equitable society, especially in STEM fields. In celebration of International Women's Day (IWD), the university organizes a range of events every year, including a book corner celebrating women's achievements and encourage individuals to participate in these events or become ambassadors to share the message in person or on social media.

Women Faculty Association (WFA)
Description

The Women Faculty Association (WFA) at HKUST was established in 2011 by a group of dedicated women faculty members from all schools of the university. The Association provides mentoring and support networks for women faculty and students, organizes seminars and forums, supports university initiatives, and has established scholarships and camps to encourage women's participation in underrepresented fields.

Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Scholarship 
Description

The WISE Scholarship established by HKUST aims to encourage high-achieving female students to pursue studies in science, engineering, or interdisciplinary studies by providing financial support and recognition. The scholarship not only recognizes academic excellence but also considers non-academic talents, achievements in science and technology competitions, and interview performance.

Description

The Women in Business (WIB) at HKUST aims to empower women, introduce aspiring executives to professionals, and close the gender gap in leadership. WIB offers mentorship and projects for students, such as the Project Leadership Program, which enhances students’ professional development by connecting them with successful female industry leaders.

A role model for future women engineers
Description

Prof. Rhea Patricia LIEM exemplifies HKUST’s approach to diversity. Born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia, she has studied, taught, or worked in Canada, Singapore, and now Hong Kong as a professor in our Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. She has also been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, the only professional body dedicated to aerospace, aviation and space communities.

YEUNG Wun-Lam, one of HKUST’s five WISE scholarship awardees for 2022, is passionate about solving real-world problems. “The award has encouraged me to work harder towards achieving my dream. I aim to be a product or software engineer and create a tech-related start-up to invent and develop sustainability-related products.”

Description

The International Students Association (ISA) is the third largest organization on campus. It represents the interests of overseas students while promoting cultural exchange within the campus. ISA hosts over 20 events per year, including a Welcoming Party for exchange and full-time students, a Futsal Tournament, and Summer Storage.

Calling for Exceptional Student Scholars Globally
Description

The Global Learner Scholarship is designed to enhance the diversity of the student community by attracting high-caliber international students. It is available for outstanding students from the "Belt and Road Initiative" and other countries that rarely come to Hong Kong to study (such as Japan and Brazil) who are applying for undergraduate programs at HKUST. This scholarship reflects HKUST's commitment to fostering a multicultural academic environment and supporting international students in their educational pursuits.

Apart from scholarships, students can apply for financial aid through different schemes. The university also works with NGOs, such as Second Chance, to support bright scholars in need through various projects.

Achieve more glory
Description

We encourage local athletes to pursue undergraduate studies at local universities through sports achievement-based admissions. HKUST has set up the Student Athletes Admissions Scheme (SAAS).

SAAS applicants would receive special admissions consideration based on their sports achievements. Successful applicants would enjoy scholarships, a living allowance, our full support, and great flexibility in their study arrangements, allowing them to pursue their sporting and academic goals simultaneously.

Shaw Auditorium
Description

The Shaw Auditorium is home to HKUST's cultural activities and a landmark for large-scale events. It provides flexibility and possibilities to create a vibrant arts and cultural scene at the University.

As a multi-purpose auditorium with a seating capacity of around 850 for concerts and over 1,300 in flat-floor configurations, the venue hosts various events, such as concerts, theater performances, lectures, exhibitions, and ceremonies.

The Shaw Auditorium aims to bring arts, music, and other intellectually stimulating events to the University's more technically oriented students and their respective communities.
